Journeys on exhibit in photos, paintings

The new Blackboard Gallery of Studio Channel Islands Art Center will feature two exhibits next month, running concurrently from Thurs., Sept. 5 to Sat., Sept. 28. A free artists’ reception will be held on Sat., Sept. 7 from 4 to 6 p.m. at 2222 Ventura Blvd., Camarillo.

“Confessions of a Stay-At- Home Mom Revealed in Photography Exhibit” is the title of wife, mother, photographer, graphic designer and writer Barbara Pickles’ show.

Pickles took pictures of her three sons from the day they were born but found she was always absent from the photos. See how she put herself back in the picture in this exhibit.

Pickles earned an MFA in photography from Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara and graduated from Wellesley College in Massachusetts. She was an art director, graphic designer, commercial and music video producer, and photographer in Los Angeles.

A joint exhibit of artists Gerd Koch and Carole Milton’s work is titled “Our Journey Together—1976-2013.”

This celebration of the couple’s 37-year shared journey will feature a retrospective of paintings. The opening reception will include the opening of a monthlong silent auction for two paintings by the artists.

On Sept. 14 from 4 to 6 p.m., Koch will give a talk titled “Visual Music.” A book signing will take place after the presentation. The artists will each donate a painting as a door prize.

Studio hours are Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesdays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
