Jake Vernon, 24, from Camarillo passed away on Thursday, July 27th in a University of Florida Hospital in Gainesville, Florida after a battle with Atrial Fibrillation. Jake attended Los Senderos Open School and Monte Vista Middle School in Camarillo and graduated from Calabasas High School in 2011. Jake was a part of YMCA Basketball, Indian Guides, AYSO, Camarillo Pony Baseball and Camarillo Roadrunners Football. He was a member of the 2008 Crespi JV undefeated Lacrosse Team. In 2013, Jake enlisted in the US Navy and served honorably as an E5 Master at Arms at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In 2016, he started college at The University of Oklahoma then transferred to Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida, where Jake was majoring in Aeronautical Science while pursuing a FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate. Jake loved life and he loved being active: skateboards, motorcycles, trucks, fast cars, snowboarding, hiking, guns, surfing with his dad, laughing with his mom and playing ping pong with his brother and sister. He loved his dogs, cousins, uncles and aunt, girlfriend Brittney Skinner, and especially flying airplanes. Jake is survived by his mother Janine (Mark Ortgies) of Camarillo, father Greg Vernon (Daen) of Big Bear, sister Megan Ortgies, brothers Maxwell Ortgies and Bennett Vernon, as well as grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins who reside in Australia, Idaho, Las Vegas, Sherman Oaks, San Clemente, San Gabriel, San Francisco and Los Osos.
