Agave Maria’s features breakfast on the patio
This is a perfect time of year to enjoy a tasty breakfast or brunch outdoors on a festive patio with bright, cheerful umbrellas, lots of greenery, the sound of a tinkling fountain and the taste of great Mexican and American favorites. And in case you haven’t yet discovered a lovely local al fresco dining experience, Agave Maria’s in Camarillo could be the place for you.
The family- friendly restaurant now serves up yummy breakfast dishes on the weekends that are sure to please all members of your group, even the most sensitive, health-conscious diners. And with the exception of the griddle items, which are available between 8 a.m. and noon, you can even order breakfast items for lunch or dinner.
Either way, within minutes of your arrival, you’ll get a basket of fresh chips and salsa to tide you over as you peruse the menu. Order a fresh cup of coffee and ask for one of their flavored creamers. If you choose a stack of pancakes, you can request sugar-free syrup.
It’s worth coming back over and over to sample Agave Maria’s breakfast offerings because they’re crafted to suit any foodie. Visitors can choose from breakfast plates with items like bacon, ham, asada or carnitas and eggs with some of the tastiest breakfast potatoes around.
Omelets include a chile verde version that makes my mouth water just thinking about it; the dish comes with a smooth, mild green sauce that really hits the mark. Keep in mind that diners can ask for egg whites as a substitute.
Of course, a Mexican breakfood fast wouldn’t be complete without a wet or dry burrito that comes stuffed with scrambled eggs and your favorite meat, plus cheese, beans, rice, potatoes and salsa.
Some of Agave Maria’s “Over the Border” selections include huevos rancheros with beans and rice, chorizo and eggs, or chilaquiles and eggs—a delicious mix of tortilla squares, sauce and eggs that comes with black or refried beans and rice.
Co-owners Tracy Jeffares and Oscar Dominguez Delgadillo have been pleasing local taste buds for over six years, starting with their first Agave Maria’s restaurant in Ojai followed by the one in Camarillo on Arneill Road, the site of the former Texas Cattle Co.
In addition to a full menu of goodies for lunch and dinner, Jeffares says, both restaurants offer a gluten-free menu.
“Our rice, beans and tofu are vegetarian and organic,” she said, adding there are also menus for kids and seniors.
The Camarillo restaurant’s patio is a great spot for group celebrations, with room for up to 80 guests.
Jeffares said they are very flexible when it comes to large gatherings.
“We have banquet tables we can set up with red tablecloths and Mexican runners, and we can also set up a margarita bar or a no-host bar.” There are lots of choices, including favorites like enchiladas or tacos. “Plus, we’re reasonably priced.”
Residents will be thrilled to find out that Agave Maria’s is working with Camarillo singer-guitarist Brian White, who has been performing locally for over 20 years. Jeffares hopes that by the summer the patio will be alive with the sound of his music on Saturday nights. She wants to add entertainment at other times, too.
