Upset by teachers’ comments in class
The April 5 Oxnard Union High School District board meeting was attended by students, parents and concerned citizens who are outraged by the post-election anti-President Trump actions by teachers at Camarillo’s Rancho Campana High School.
I was one of the concerned citizens who spoke during the public comments.
The students and parents who brought these issues forward addressed the board and told them what was said in classrooms by five different teachers at Rancho Campana.
One incident regarding a bet that President Trump would be shot on Inauguration Day made national news, and the teacher reportedly apologized and then went back to her teaching duties.
After the public comments, Dr. Penelope DeLeon, superintendent of schools, stated that all complaints are taken seriously and that the board thoroughly investigated each incident at the site and district level, and appropriate disciplinary action was taken.
We were not told what, if any, action was taken.
It is apparent OUHSD did not take these complaints seriously and, therefore, effectively allowed these actions to occur with seemingly no consequence to the teachers.
The school board’s political bias and disrespect for the office of the president of the United States is evident.
What occurred at Rancho Campana is not an anomaly. The politically biased indoctrination of students at all grade levels must stop.
Parents and citizens must unite to protect our children.
The next OUHSD school board meeting is May 10 at 5 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
