Be a Santa to a senior

The Be a Santa to a Senior program, which provides gifts and companionship for lonely and isolated seniors, is made possible by the support of area nonprofit organizations, retailers, volunteers and community members.

Locally, the program is sponsored by the Home Instead Senior Care office serving Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks, Camarillo, Oxnard, Ventura and surrounding areas.

Home Instead Senior Care has partnered with organizations and businesses to help with the gift collection and distribution. The groups include Among Friends Adult Day Health, Camarillo Health Care District, Glenwood Care Center, Simi Valley Senior Center, Ventura County Adult Day Health, Glenwood Care Center, Vintage Simi Hills and area Curves locations.

Participating retail locations will display Be a Santa to a Senior Christmas trees through Mon., Dec. 14. The trees feature ornaments with seniors’ first names and their gift requests. Holiday shoppers can pick ornaments from the trees, buy the items listed and return to the store wrapped with the ornament attached.

Program partners and volunteers will distribute the gifts to local seniors who might otherwise spend the holiday alone. The trees can be found at these locations:
