Ballet troupe to make debut performance

Ventura County Ballet Company’s new traveling dance troupe, DAnce ART, will present its debut performance at 6:30 p.m. Thurs., April 25 at Century Theater Downtown Ventura, 555 E. Main St.

The troupe of young, preprofessional dancers will perform at regional events this spring and summer to raise money for local nonprofit organizations.

The debut performance will raise funds for the Ventura Film Society at a special screening of “First Position,” a documentary that follows six dancers as they prepare for the Youth America Grand Prix international ballet competition.

Three of the six DAnce ART ballerinas competed in the competition in February.

Leading the group is Marina Fliagina, VCBC’s choreographer and associate artistic director who has danced for ballet schools such as the Moscow State Theatre Kremlin Ballet, Russian Imperial Ballet, Moscow Classical Ballet and Moscow Festival Ballet.

Fliagina choreographed a piece to the music of Frank Sinatra that will be performed at the movie premiere.

Advance tickets are $10 for general admission, $7 for seniors and $5 for students.
