Park district celebrates golden anniversary

Pleasant Valley Recreation and Park District will present a 50th anniversary event from 5 to 9 p.m. Fri., Aug. 3 and from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sat., Aug. 4 at Pleasant Valley Fields, 150 W. Park Court, Camarillo.

This free community celebration will showcase all aspects of the district, including sports, free special events, programs for seniors, youth and adult activities, and dog shows.

Friday’s activities will include softball games, a car show, the band 80/80 Vision and a movie in the park. Hot dogs will be free.

The all-day Saturday event will have 50-plus art, crafts and food vendors, kid zone activities, interactive games, and a touch-a-truck area.

In addition, the L.A. Kings Hockey Chariot Patrol will host an inflatable rink and a hockey shoot-out. Ken and Austin Andrews, contestants from “The Biggest Loser,” will present a 1-mile family fun run.

The event will also feature a 1-mile Jog with Your Dog, led by Friends of the Camarillo Dog Parks; Camarillo Police Department’s Kid Print and K-9 unit demonstrations; a bingo tent with games for $1; and two stages of live music and Zumba in the park.

Visitors can preregister to play in the following sports tournaments: 4 vs. 4 grass volleyball, 3 vs. 3 basketball, bocce ball and over the line.

The evening will end with a fireworks show set to music at 8:30 p.m.
