Meeting to focus on adoption

The Children’s Bureau will present an informational meeting for anyone interested in learning more about adoption from 7 to 8 p.m. Wed., Feb. 29 at the Grant Brimhall Library, 1401 E. Janss Road., Thousand Oaks.

With 114,000 children in foster care and many unable to return to their families of origin, the bureau seeks single or married individuals, teachers, retired persons and families to consider adopting older children and sibling sets of three or four brothers and sisters.

Qualifying families will receive training, certification, benefits (including medical for children) and 24-hour support to aid in the care of their foster or adoptive children.

The Children’s Bureau has finalized more than 1,000 adoptions and has helped more than 21,000 children and families in Southern California with services such as school readiness, parenting classes, family resource centers, support groups and mental health counseling.
