Life-size sculptures debut in gallery

Studio Channel Islands Art Center will showcase the exhibit “Classical Contemporary” with sculptures by Russell McMillin and David Elder through Sat., Feb. 26 at the center, 2221 Ventura Blvd., Camarillo.

The show will feature a series of life-size ceramic torsos by McMillin and carved wooden sculptures by Elder.

McMillin has a bachelor’s degree in art from Sonoma State University and a Master of Fine Arts from Cal State Northridge. He is the professor of art and sculpture at El Camino College.

Elder earned a Master of Art degree from Ohio State University. Before his retirement from Cal State Northridge in 2000, he served as associate dean of the School of the Arts and chair of the three-dimensional art department.

He produced a special exhibit for the Getty Museum and completed a number of commissions of large sculptures on display in Maryland, Indiana and California.

Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday; and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
