Kelly Soo Park Kelly Soo Park Charges were dropped against Ronnie Wayne Case, 34, who was arrested June 17 in Camarillo with Kelly Soo Park, 44, in connection with the 2008 murder of a 21-year-old Santa Monica woman.

Case and Park, both Camarillo residents, appeared in Los Angeles County Superior Court June 22 after the pair were arrested by detectives with the Santa Monica Police Department.

Shiara Davila-Morales, a spokesperson with the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office, said the DA’s office has asked the Santa Monica Police Department for “further investigation” in regard to Case’s alleged involvement in the crime.

Park was charged with one count of murder in connection with the slaying of Juliana Redding, an aspiring model and actress from Arizona who police found dead in her condo in the 1500 block of Centinela Avenue.

Park is being held in lieu of $1-million bail. She is due back in court June 28, Davila-Morales said.

Sgt. Jay Trisler with the Santa Monica Police Department said that, because the investigation is ongoing and investigators may make additional arrests, detectives would not specify how Redding was killed.

“This was never a cold case,” Trisler said. “It is an ongoing investigation. It hasn’t finished as of yet.”

The Los Angeles County coroner’s office has sealed Redding’s autopsy report, he said.

Nicknamed “Ronnie the Rocket,” Case has been a longtime race car driver at the Ventura Speedway.

Ventura Speedway employees would not comment on Case.

Race car driver Greg Taylor said it was “unbelievable” that Case, whom Taylor has known for more than 12 years, had been arrested for murder.

“It blows my mind,” Taylor said. “I know it’s not him.”

A neighbor of Case’s said she was “shocked” when she heard of his arrest. Although he had been known to have parties in the past, she said, he was generally a quiet neighbor she occasionally spoke to in passing.

In April, a 2006 sexual assault charge against Case was dismissed. According to court records, Case pleaded not guilty to a number of charges, including rape and sexual battery.

Attempts to contact anyone at Case’s home were unsuccessful.

Trisler said Park was Case’s roommate. It’s unknown if they were dating.

Park is a real estate agent with Thousand Oaks-based Sherwood Financial and Investment, according to multiple real estate websites.

Although the crime garnered national headlines, police have not released any details of the case.

Police went to Redding’s home after her mother complained to Santa Monica detectives that her daughter hadn’t returned phone calls.

In addition to working as a model and actress, Redding was a hostess at a Venice Beach restaurant and was also taking classes at Santa Monica City College, according to multiple reports.

She was from Tucson. According to the Tucson Citizen, Redding was a multisport athlete in high school and a member of its drama department and student council.

She “had an outgoing spirit that involved an openness to life,” said a school counselor in a 2008 interview with the Arizona newspaper.

Trisler said the arrests came after detectives spent “thousands of hours” investigating the murder and had worked with multiple police agencies, including the FBI, the Oxnard Police Department and the Ventura County Combined Agencies Team.

“I think it was great diligence that our investigators continued to investigate (the case), which resulted in the arrest of Park and Case,” Trisler said. “We’ll continue to monitor the case as it goes through the judicial system.”
