Charter school to hold enrollment lottery

A random lottery will take place Feb. 24 to 26 for the 201011 school year for students who want to enroll at Camarillo Academy of Progressive Education (CAPE) charter school, an independent public school, at 777 Aileen St., next to Valle Lindo Park.

Applications must be submitted at the school by Feb. 23 to be included in the lottery.

Parents and guardians can tour the campus and meet administrators and teachers to learn about the school’s educational program. Openings are available on the tours scheduled for Feb. 8, 9, 16 and 22. To reserve a spot, call the school at (805) 384-1415.

As a public school, CAPE cannot charge tuition and it may not discriminate.

First availability for classroom space in the 2010-11 school year will go to current CAPE students and their siblings, with the remaining spaces filled by the lottery.

CAPE teaches students in grades K-8 with an educational philosophy that expands upon the “open” philosophy at Bedford Open and Los Senderos Open schools.

CAPE serves approximately 500 students, with waiting lists in most grade levels.
