Kabbalist expert to speak at Chabad

Rabbi Dr. Laibl Wolf, Kabbalist author and lecturer from Australia, will give a talk at 7 p.m. Mon., Nov. 23 at the Chabad Jewish Center of Ventura, 5040 Telegraph Road.

In a PowerPoint presentation, Wolf will provide five strategies for mental strength, emotional maturity and body wellness, including “designing a new screensaver for consciousness,” “developing a creative spiritual ambience within,” “coping mechanisms for stress” and “confronting your fears.”

He will draw on contemporary psychological and medical research and the ancient wisdoms of Kabbalah and Hassidism.

Wolf lectures in more than 65 cities a year, training people in the discipline of mind consciousness and emotional intelligence through positive psychology and the Kabbalah.

He is a psychologist, lawyer, Hassidic rabbi and author of the book, “Practical Kabbalah.”

Private Nativity collections on display

Hundreds of Nativities from private collections will be on display during the 17th annual No Room at the Inn, presented at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints, 1201 Paseo Camarillo, Camarillo,

The grand opening gala will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Fri., Dec. 4 in the church hall. The gala will have light appetizers, live entertainment and a silent auction. A donation of $25 in advance and $30 at the door is requested for the gala.

The display continues from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sat. and Sun., Dec. 5 and 6. In the children’s corner, youngsters can make crafts and dress up in costumes depicting the nativity. The silent auction continues throughout the weekend.

The donation for the exhibit on weekends is $5 for adults and $1 for children.

All proceeds will benefit the homeless shelters of Ventura County.

University choior to perform

The California State University Channel Islands Choir will perform at 3 p.m. Sun., Dec. 6 at St. Columba’s Episcopal Church, 1251 Las Posas Road, Camarillo.

Music, food at Ventura church’s grand opening

Unity Church of Ventura has relocated to downtown Ventura at 700 E. Main St. Sunday services are 10 a.m.

The public is invited to a grand opening celebration on Sun., Dec. 6. A reception and ribbon cutting will take place at 9 a.m., followed by the service from 10 to 11 a.m.

The festivities will conclude with live music and food from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Unity Church of Ventura has been a presence in Ventura County for more than 50 years. The church is led by the Rev. Cathy Norman-Casey.

The new location is a former church facility originally built in 1929 at Main and Fir streets. The community had outgrown its former building and had been seeking a new location for three years.

The church is a trans-denominational community affiliated with Unity School of Christianity, the Association of Unity Churches, Silent Unity and the Daily Word. Unity Church helps people realize and express their Divine Potential for healthier, happier and more successful lives.

Bethlehem recreated

Westminster Presbyterian Church will present the 14th annual Bethlehem Experience, a free drive-through pageant re-creating the first century village of Bethlehem on the night of the first Christmas Eve, from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Sat. and Sun., Dec. 12 and 13 on the church grounds, 32111 Watergate Road, Westlake Village.

Members of the congregation will dress in period costumes and act out the daily life of the town’s citizens.

The event features Hollywood-type sets, theatrical lighting, realistic props, live farm animals, a marketplace, Roman soldiers, traditional Hebrew music and dance, food cooking over fire pits and a manger scene.

Guests remain in their vehicles and drive slowly through the “town” with their windows rolled down. There is no charge to attend.
