Sage awards grant to Los Primeros Sage, an international publisher of journals, books and electronic media for scholarly, educational and professional markets, has announced the 2009 winners of the Books for Schools grant program. Sage is headquartered in Thousand Oaks and is the parent company of Corwin, a publisher of K-12 staff development books and materials. The area schools receiving the grants are Redwood Middle School in Thousand Oaks, Los Primeros School of the Sciences and Arts in Camarillo, Brookside Elementary School in Oak Park and Royal High School in Simi Valley. Each winning school received a check for $1,000 and a copy of the Corwin book “How to Grade for Learning K-12, third edition,” by Ken O’Connor. More than 40 schools from Ventura and Santa Barbara counties applied for a grant for their school library. Each applicant was asked to describe what books they would purchase with the grant and why those particular books were requested. Answers included the need to “buy more Spanish-language fiction books” and “purchase new math books to support our math program.” Applications for the 2010 Books for Schools grant program will be available at the website www.sagepub.com during summer 2010. |
