Make personal history recording
Camarillo Hospice volunteers who’ve been trained in the Oral History Program are available to meet with seniors to capture their personal life stories on a digital voice recording. The program provides seniors with the opportunity to share their thoughts and memories on the subjects they choose to talk about, such as family history, childhood memories, favorite stories, meaningful experiences and advice or messages for the future. All recording takes place in the senior’s residence. For more information or to schedule a recording session, call Laurie Davis, director of volunteer services, at (805) 389-6870, ext. 12, or e-mail ldavis @camarillohospice.org. Visiting nurse campaign Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurse Association has begun its 25th annual Light Up A Life campaign to coincide with National Hospice and Palliative Care month in November. The campaign will run through the holiday season. The goal is to raise $60,000 to benefit Livingston Hospice, the first Medicare-certified hospice in Ventura County. Hospice is a home program that provides care for the terminally ill and their families. Memory Stars can be ordered online for $25 each at www.livingstonvna.org or by calling (805) 642-0239. Center for nursing moms has moved Community Memorial Health System’s Breastfeeding Resource Center has moved to a new location and has a new name: CMHS New Parent Resource Center. The center, previously housed at 129 N. Joanne Ave., around the corner from Community Memorial Hospital, is now at 2809 Main St. The center, staffed by registered nurses who are certified lactation counselors, offers complimentary services to patients who delivered at the hospital. Within the center is perinatal education, including all childbirth and new parent classes, along with breastfeeding supplies and support, including a “breastfeeding boutique” that offers breast pump sales and rental and sales of breastfeeding bras and other supplies. The Breastfeeding Support Group also continues in the new location and provides individual breastfeeding consultations. Ratto certified Mary Ann Ratto, manager of Adult Day Services at the Camarillo Health Care District, has received recognition as a Certified Senior Advisor from the Society of Certified Senior Advisors. “Having a CSA on staff enables the district to provide an even wider range of meaningful services to the community,” said Jane Rozanski, chief executive officer of the Camarillo Health Care District. The district provides a wide variety of health, wellness and safety programs and services, including state-licensed adult day services, lifeline emergency response button, transportation, nail care clinic, counseling, senior lunch program, exercise, health screenings and immunizations. |
