PVL football play kicks off

Camarillo High’s football team will begin Pacific View League action on a tear.

The Scorpions have won four straight games heading into tonight’s matchup at Pacifica.

Rio Mesa hasn’t done too shabbily, either.

The Spartans have won three games already after winning once in 2008. Rio Mesa (3-2) plays host to Hueneme tonight at 7.

Senior quarterback Jeff Mathews has lived up to the hype for 4-1 Camarillo.

Mathews has thrown for 1,165 yards with 16 touchdowns and two interceptions. He has at least three scoring passes in four of five games.

Ryan Molesworth has 35 catches for 455 yards and nine total touchdowns. Teammate Ossie Toc has 537 rushing yards and four total scores. Tre Boswell leads the Scorpions with 42 tackles and five sacks.

For Rio Mesa, Jamaal Perkins has 588 rushing yards and six touchdowns. Connor Benado averages a team-high 13.6 tackles per game.
