Theater to stage ‘Oklahoma’
Show times are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. Sat., Oct. 31 will have a 2 p.m. matinee only and no evening show. Ken Rayzor is the director, Megan Rayzor is the choreographer, and Paul Duffy is the music director. Friday nights beginning Oct. 23 will offer two tickets for the price of one for students only. Discounts may not be combined. Ticket prices are $18 for adults; $13 for students, seniors and military; and $10 for children 12 years and younger. Group and family rates are available. Celebrate the child Child Development Resources of Ventura County Inc. will host its second annual family fun day, Celebrate the Child, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sun., Oct. 11 at the Camarillo Ranch, 201 Camarillo Ranch Road. Nearly 3,000 family members, including the children served by CDR, a social services agency in Ventura County, will be invited to the event. The day will feature multicultural food offered by 40 restaurants, family-friendly activities such as games and arts and craft projects provided by 32 businesses, dental screenings and an opportunity to meet public safety representatives from the fire department, the sheriff’s department K-9 unit and American Medical Response Ambulance Service. Guests may also meet with representatives from First 5 Ventura County and associated service agencies. The countywide event is offered at no charge to attendees. Boats checked for safety At the request of the Ventura Harbor Patrol, the Coast Guard Auxiliary will be conducting complimentary vessel checks from 2 to 6 p.m. Sat., Oct. 10 and 17 at the Ventura Harbor launch ramp. Boats will be checked to confirm they meet both federal and state safety requirements. Vessels that pass the examination will be given a decal to be displayed. No citations are issued during the checks. The Harbor Patrol will offer free parking for any boat that participates in the inspections. Events at library The Camarillo Library at 4101 Las Posas Road is presenting the following activities in the community room, sponsored by the Friends of the Camarillo Library. All programs are free and open to the public. For more information, call (805) 388-5222 or e-mail libraryfriends@ci.camarillo.ca.us. •Juggler David Cousin, holder of five world records, will give a performance for all ages at 10 a.m. Sat., Oct. 10. •A slide presentation for Canada’s Atlantic Coast (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island) trip in August 2010 and Ireland in September 2010 will be at 1 p.m. Tues., Oct. 13. •A program on “Victorian clothing from the outside in” will be at 2 p.m. Sun., Oct. 18. Guests will learn the secrets of Victorian times as a society lady shares her tales. This interactive presentation will be for the whole family. Prior to the program, the Friends of the Camarillo Library will have a brief annual meeting and elect the new board officers. Light refreshments will be served. •The Ventura County Library offers free, credible, full text electronic library resources in all subjects for school assignments and personal enrichment. These e-library resources are accessible from home, school, work and inside the library. All students in grades six through 12 and adults are invited to observe a wireless laptop and Web access demonstration at the library from 4 to 5 p.m. Tues., Oct. 20 in the first floorYoung Adult Room. Drop-ins are welcome and no pre-registration is necessary. The program will be repeated from 4 to 5 p.m. Wed., Oct 21. •Wii and You at the Bowl: Introduction to Virtual Bowling for seniors using a simple remotecontrolled Nintendo Wii will be from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Tues., Nov. 3 in the first floor conference room. Refreshments will be served. The event kicks off the new library gaming program. Participants should pre-register at the reference desk. •Wonderful World of Christmas trip to Claremont Pavilion will be Thurs., Dec. 10. The signup deadline is Nov. 15. The cost is $78.50 for members and $83.50 for nonmembers. The price includes lunch, bus, entrance and gratuities.
