Juried exhibit to feature painting show
Studio Channel Islands Art Center will open the 10th annual Juried Members Exhibition from 4 to 6 p.m. Sat., Sept. 26. The exhibit runs through Dec. 5, and the center is on the campus of California State University Channel Islands in Camarillo.
The judges are recognized professionals in the arts community. This year the judging panel includes Cynthia Minet, lead faculty in the art department at Moorpark College.
Minet is known for her sewn sculptures that combine vinyl, fabrics and hardware. Minet’s work has been exhibited in the U.S. and abroad.
Minet received a Master of Fine Arts from San Francisco State University and a bachelor’s degree from UC Santa Barbara.
The theme for this exhibition is each artist’s personal best. A People’s Choice Award and first-, second- and third-place prizes will be awarded to artists working in both two and three dimensions. The grand prize winner will receive a one-person exhibition in the center’s galleries.
In addition to the Juried Member’s Exhibition, Beverly Decker will have a painting show called “Visual Meditation/Abstract Calligraphy” in the Gerd Koch Gallery. She is a college art instructor and teaches summer painting workshops in France.
Decker received a bachelor’s degree from Cal State Long Beach and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Arizona. She is a founding member of Women Beyond Borders.
Gallery hours are noon to 3 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday or by appointment.
