Fireworks illegal in Camarillo
      The Ventura County Fire Department reminds residents that the safe and legal way to enjoy fireworks this Fourth of July is at a professional public display. Fireworks of all kinds are illegal in Camarillo, Moorpark, Ojai, Port Hueneme, Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks and the unincorporated areas of Ventura County.

United Way names new head of the board
      Michael Powers, director of the Ventura County's Health Care Agency, has assumed the duties of chair of the board for United Way of Ventura County. He will serve in this capacity until June 30, 2010. Powers succeeds Leanne Neilson, provost for California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks. Neilson will serve as immediate past chair.

     JANN HENDRY/Acorn Newspapers TO CLARIFY—A photograph in the June 26 Camarillo Acorn incorrectly identified a rock quarry that is no longer in operation as the Pacific Rock quarry. The above photograph does, in fact, picture the Pacific Rock quarry, which is located on the mountainside near the 101 Freeway south of the Conejo Grade.

Fireworks show
      The 16th annual Rotary Club of Ventura and Ventura College Foundation Independence Day Celebration with stage show, community picnic and fireworks display will be from 5 to 9:30 p.m. Sat., July 4 at Ventura College, 4667 Telegraph Road.
