Scholarships help students take flight
Local chapter of the Experimental Aviation Association awarded $20,000 in college scholarships
      Last week, 13 students from Ventura County walked away with $20,000 for their college education. The Camarillo chapter of the Experimental Aviation Association awarded the college scholarships last Saturday in its hangar at the Camarillo Airport.

Movie stars turn out for Greek fest
     IRIS SMOOT/Acorn Newspapers GREEK FILM—Fox Searchlight Pictures' "My Life In Ruins" stars Alexis Georgoulis, left, and Nia Vardalos sign movie posters during the 31st annual Ventura County Greek Festival at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Camarillo on June 13. The upcoming feature film centers on a travel guide, played by Vardalos, who finds romance on a trip to Greece. The annual three-day festival attracts some 6,000 visitors, who come to enjoy Greek food, dancing, live music and wonderful pastries.

Auditions for 'Steel Magnolias'
      The Camarillo Community Theatre will have auditions for "Steel Magnolias" by appointment on Mon., June 22 at the theater, 330 Skyway Drive, Camarillo, inside the airport. Prepare a one- to two-minute monologue. Callbacks are by invitation only. All ages and ethnicities are encouraged to audition. Rehearsals will begin immediately.
