Cornerstone Christian claims CIF-SS Division VII baseball title
      The Cornerstone Christian High baseball team will have all summer to celebrate. The Eagles completed a storybook undefeated season by defeating Cate of Carpinteria 12-2 in the CIF-Southern Section Division VII championship last Friday at Blair Field at Long Beach.

      Next month, Grace Brethren senior wide receiver Travis Sproat is scheduled to enter boot camp at Camp Pendleton as a member of the United States Marine Corps. The diminutive playmaker, listed at 5-foot-8 and 175 pounds, has already requested a rapid deploy and expects to be stationed overseas later this year.

Droughn wins girls' 100-meter final in 11.54 seconds
      Multiple area athletes shone on the biggest stage in high school track and field last weekend. Nobody shone brighter than Rio Mesa High's Valexsia Droughn, who won the girls' 100-meter dash in 11.54 seconds at the CIF State Track and Field Championships at Buchanan High at Clovis.
