CHP arrests suspected drunk driver with alleged homemade explosive
      The California Highway Patrol arrested a suspect for driving under the influence and for possession of an explosive device on a public highway at approximately 8:23 p.m. June 1 on Santa Clara Avenue at Ventura Boulevard in Camarillo.

Seabee Days full of family fun
      The U.S. Navy will host its 23rd annual Seabee Days Sat. and Sun., June 13 to 14 at Naval Base Ventura County Port Hueneme. Admission and parking are free. The event helps the public learn about the Navy's construction engineers.

Officer of Year cares about people, community
      Senior Dep. Shane Zaring, 31, is the Camarillo Police Department's Officer of the Year. Kiwanis clubs in Ventura County honored Zaring and other officers selected by their stations at an awards ceremony May 30 at the Four Points by Sheraton in Ventura.
