City doles out $85,000 to nonprofits; school foundation denied grant
      The City Council agreed last month to give more than $85,000 in grants next year to 17 nonprofits that serve Camarillo residents. Earlier this year, 28 nonprofits applied for $215,208 through Camarillo's Community Service Grant Program. The city, however, had only $85,200 to award.

Soroptimists to give awards
      Soroptimist International of Camarillo will present awards during a breakfast meeting on Tues., April 28 at Marie Callender's restaurant in Camarillo. The winner of the 2009 Women's Opportunity Award will receive $2,000 and the winner of the Amy Durst McAvoy scholarship will receive $1,500.
