Teachers offer service with a smile
     JANN HENDRY/Acorn Newspapers McHAPPY—University Charter School third-grade student Max Vasques, 8, elicits a big laugh from fourth/fifth-grade teacher Kari Eggebraten and kindergarten/first-grade teacher Monica Osborn during a fundraiser at McDonalds in Camarillo on March 24. Teachers, administrators and staff of the charter school worked the cash registers during the fundraiser. A percentage of the proceeds will support the school's programs and educational field trips for the students.

      Local students were winners at the 55th Ventura County Science Fair on March 24 to 26 at Seaside Park in Ventura. More than 700 students competed in the fair with the theme "Today's Dreams are Tomorrow's Science.
