Legend makes opening day special for kids
     TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALL GAME—Thousand Oaks resident George "Sparky" Anderson, above, addresses parents and youngsters at opening day ceremonies for the Camarillo PONY Baseball Association at Pleasant Valley Park March 7. Anderson is a retired Hall of Fame Major League baseball manager. At right, Camarillo resident Randy Bluhm shares a moment with his 9-year-old son, Trevor, a fourth-grader at Tierra Linda Elementary School, during the Saturday event. Bluhm is an assistant coach for his son's Mustang AA team, the Dodgers. Speaking of the Boys in Blue, spring training for Major League Baseball is underway, making this time of year magical for those who love our national pastime. Relax with yoga class
      A gentle yoga class will be held from 11 to 11:30 a.m. every Saturday in March at the Ventura Harbor Village main lawn. Yoga helps improve muscle tone, flexibility, strength and stamina and reduces stress and tension.

      A seminar about the health benefits of volunteering will be held from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tues., March 17 at AlmaVia of Camarillo, 2500 Ponderosa Drive North, Camarillo. The program will outline the health benefits seniors and others can derive from volunteering.

      St. John's Regional Medical Center and St. John's Pleasant Valley Hospital have announced the selection of 10 Ventura County nonprofit organizations as grant recipients in the 2008 Catholic Healthcare West Community Grants Program.
