City posts 3rd-quarter gains for tax revenue
      While the state and the county saw sales tax revenue decline in the third quarter of last year, Camarillo posted a 14 percent gain, Ronnie Campbell, director of finance, told the City Council last week. For the most part, the city's diverse businesses are responsible for the increase, Campbell said.

Shelter reports increase in pet adoptions
      The Humane Society of Ventura County announces an increase in pet adoptions in 2008 from the previous year. The private, nonprofit Ojai animal shelter reported overseeing 699 pet adoptions last year, up from 591 adoptions in 2007.

Lopez elected to board
      Armando J. Lopez has been elected to the board of directors of the Ventura County Community Foundation for a four-year term. Lopez took his seat on the board in January. He serves as a partner in Plaza Development Partners LLP, which built the multiscreen theater and restaurant complex in downtown Oxnard.

Submit entries for 'Healing Arts' exhibit
      Buenaventura Art Association announces a call for entries for the "Healing Arts" exhibit on the ground floor of Ventura's Community Memorial Hospital in March. Artists are encouraged to submit literal and abstract interpretations of healing arts. Works will be for sale and an artist reception will be held.
