Humane Society seeks donations for neglected horses
New barn needed to house rescued animals
      The Humane Society of Ventura County is asking for the public's help to continue housing and treating 37 severely neglected horses that were rescued from a Lockwood Valley ranch on Oct. 8. A 20-stall portable barn, which local businessman David Murdock loaned to the Humane Society after the rescue, was being dismantled and moved this week. A new barn is needed.

United Way receives grant
      United Way of Ventura County recently received $16,800 from the Monsanto Fund to support its Community Impact Fund, which focuses on education, income and health. Monsanto Fund is a private foundation and the philanthropic arm of Monsanto Company.
