Variety of music classes offered

Pleasant Valley School District announces new offerings in instrumental music for students in grades four through eight.

•Middle school students at Los Colinas and Monte Vista have the option of two band classes during the school day: Intermediate Band and Advanced Band.

Middle school students at Los Primeros School of Sciences and Arts and Santa Rosa Technology School will each have one instrumental class during the school day.

Students in grades six through eight may take Beginning Band after school.

•Band and violin classes for elementary age children will be held after school at the former Los Altos Middle School, 700 Temple Ave. Registration for the afterschool music program will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays Sept. 13 and Sept. 20 in room C-3 at the former Los Altos School site.

All programs are free to students in Pleasant Valley School District. Afterschool music programs begin Mon., Sept. 29.

•Beginning Band will be offered for children in grades four through eight from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and Friday. Students can learn to play flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone or percussion.

•Beginning Violin will be offered for children in grades four through eight from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and Friday.

•Concert Band will be offered for intermediate and advanced level students from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday and Thursday.

•Jazz/Pop/Rock Band will be offered for advanced players in grades five through eight from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday and Thursday.

Auditions are required and will be held from 3:40 to 4:15 p.m. Sept. 22 and 25, and from 4:40 to 5:15 p.m. Sept. 29 and Oct. 2.
