Optimists to meet
The Camarillo Noontime Op timist Club announces its schedule for September. Meetings are held at noon every Monday at Round Table Pizza, 880 Arneill Road, Camarillo.

Sept. 8: Judy Goulet will discuss the Meadowlarks.

Sept. 15: County supervisor Kathy Long will discuss recent and proposed budget cutbacks and their effect on county services.

Sept. 22: Optimist member David Smith will discuss financial literacy.

Sept. 29: Larry Miller of Ventura College will discuss the foster child program. For details, call (805) 300-5656.

Retired teachers gather for luncheon

California Retired Teachers Association will hold a luncheon meeting from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wed., Sept. 17 at Courtyard by Marriott, 600 E. Esplanade Drive, Oxnard.

The program will feature the association's legislative advocate, who will discuss state and national legislation affecting retired California educators.

Cost is $18, and reservations, required by Fri., Sept. 12, can be made by calling Pat Craig at (805) 484-3795.

Club members will dine Thursday

The Somis Thursday Club will meet at noon Sept. 11 at 5380 Bell Street, Somis.

Lunch will be served, followed by a program. Cost of lunch is $11.

The club is a member of the California Federation of Women's Clubs.
