Teachers open up on GATE

The Camarillo Noontime Optimist Club meets at noon every Monday at Round Table Pizza, 880 Arneill Road, Camarillo.

Teachers from the Pleasant Valley School District will discuss the GATE program at the May 12 meeting.

The speaker on May 19 will be Roger Ransom.

Meetings are free and open to the public.

VetFund tourney

The California Department of Veterans Affairs will hold their Southern California VetFund Memorial Day Golf Tournament at 11 a.m. Fri., May 16 at the Buenaventura Golf Club, 5882 Olivas Park Drive, Ventura.

Registration will begin at 11 a.m., with a lunch and putting contest at 11:15 a.m. Shotgun start will be at noon.

Entry fee will include 18 holes of golf, a cart and lunch.

The VetFund provides funding for special projects for CDVA including repairs to veterans' memorials, support programs for homeless veterans and education and outreach to veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Studio to move

The board of directors of Studio Channel Islands Art Center has announced the decision to relocate their center by October 2009.

At that time the studio's lease with California State University Channel Islands will expire.
