Law society will host ethics symposium next Friday The Martin V. Smith School of Business and Economics is one of the sponsors of the CPA/Law Society of Ventura County's Ethics Symposium Scholarship Fundraiser from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Fri., May 9 at Pierpont Inn, 550 San Jon Road, Ventura. Proceeds from the event fund scholarships for students at California State University Channel Islands, UC Santa Barbara, the Pepperdine School of Law and the Ventura College of Law. The CPA/Law Society, with chapters in Ventura, Westlake and Santa Barbara, is an organization principally composed of certified public accountants and attorneys who meet monthly to hear speakers on various topics of professional or personal interest. The keynote speaker for the event is Gordon Binder, former CEO/chair of the board of Amgen Inc. In "Science Lessons," his recently released book, Binder describes Amgen's climb to success. The morning's speakers and panel include Barrie Bergman, an entrepreneur in the entertainment industry with Record Bar and in the cosmetic industry with Bare Escentuals; Christine Chambers Goodman, a Pepperdine School of Law professor who writes on equal protection topics including affirmative action, preferences and racial privacy; and Amanda Massucci, CPA, a partner in the Los Angeles Fraud Investigation and Dispute services practice at Ernst & Young.
