Community Briefs The University Preparation Schools at California State University Channel Islands will present "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" on Fri., May 9 and Sat., May 10 at the school, 550 Temple Ave., Camarillo. The play will feature 130 students in grades kindergarten through eight performing on a set with scenery made from actual candy. Major roles will be played by Gala Hofman-Hughes, Kiva Runnels, Claire Thieriault, Cole Brennan, Jose Martin, Donovan Corprue, Tatjuana Phillips, Jazmin Zavala, Arianna Redondo, Michaela Posner, Sean Light and Jonas Lee. Theater to expose 'Underpants' The Ventura College Theatre Department presents "The Underpants" at 8 p.m. tonight, Fri., May 2, at the school, 4667 Telegraph Road, Ventura. Other performances will be at 8 p.m. Sat., May 3 and a matinee at 3 p.m. Sun., May 4. The play was written in 1910 by Cal Sternheim and was adapted for modern audiences by Steve Martin. Louise, the young wife of a stuffy bureaucrat, accidentally drops her underpants while trying to get a view of the king on parade. Her husband worries that the incident will affect his reputation. A pair of men rent a room at the couple's flat in hopes of romancing Louise. The cast features Kevin Bass, Dayna Miles, Dan Saad, Elyse Sinklier, TJ Mora, James Culbertson and Drew Davenport. Tickets are $9 general admission and $7 for students, staff and seniors, and may only be purchased at the door. Library to host bluegrass Local all-female bluegrass band High Hills will perform at 2 p.m. Sun., May 4 in the community meeting room at the Camarillo Library, 4101 Las Posas Road. Admission is free. The band has performed with musicians such as the Dixie Chicks and Rick Skaggs. The performance is sponsored by the Meadowlark Service League and the Friends of the Camarillo Library.
