Temple to host local author

The Sisterhood and Brotherhood of Temple Ner Ami will host Ventura County author and scholar Lillian Hawthorne at a Sunday brunch, 10 a.m. May 18 at 4098 Calle Tesoro in Camarillo.

Hawthorne has written three books on aging: "Finishing Touches," "Sisters and Brothers All These Years" and "Husbands and Wives All These Years." She also serves as a consultant to senior counseling programs and is a columnist for Senior World magazine of California.

The topic of Hawthorne's discussion will be the Jewish history of Camarillo.

The brunch is open to the public. Cost is $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Reservations are recommended.

Local missionary will speak to UMC women

Bea Sandy, a missionary to Papua New Guinea, will speak to the United Methodist Women of the Camarillo United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. Mon., May 12 in Brooks Hall at the church, 291 Anacapa Drive, Camarillo.

Sandy is a teacher missionary with the Wycliffe Bible Translators in Ukarumpa, Papua New Guinea, teaching home economics, sewing and other subjects to elementary and high school children.

The talk is free and open to the public.
