CSUCI names new provost, vice president Dawn S. Neuman has been appointed as provost and vice president for academic affairs at California State University Channel Islands. Neuman will assume her duties on July 14. She succeeds Theodore Lucas who will take on liaison responsibilities with the statewide community colleges for the CSU chancellor's office. Neuman has served as vice provost for academic resources at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas for the past four years. She has served UNLV for more than 15 years in various positions, including co-officer in charge for the office of the executive vice president and provost, vice provost for educational outreach, and chair and professor of biological sciences. In her new role as provost and vice president for academic affairs at CSUCI, Neuman will provide leadership for the academic path of the university, direct and coordinate all aspects of academic programs, participate in strategic university planning and provide constructive assessment toward improvement. She will also be responsible for effective use of fiscal resources and will play a role in garnering support for academic programs through development and advancement activities. Neuman holds a PhD in biology from the University of Washington, Seattle, and earned Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in biology/botany from Cal State Long Beach. |
