Navy League to honor eight sailors

Navy League of the United States, Channel Islands Council will hold its 41st annual Military Recognition Dinner at 6 p.m. Thurs., May 15 at the Embassy Suites Mandalay Beach Resort, 2101 Mandalay Beach Road, Oxnard.

Eight young members of the maritime services will be recognized as representatives of all the men and women serving in the military in Ventura County. In addition, four youths representing the NJROTC, the U.S. Navy Sea Cadets and U.S. Navy League Cadets will be recognized.

Social hour will begin at 6 p.m., and dinner by Capistrano's Catering will be served at 7 p.m. The awards presentation will follow the dinner. Congressional, state and local elected officials will participate in the recognition with certificates to each of the award winners.

Cost is $40, and reservations are required by Thurs., May 1. Checks should be made payable to Channel Islands Council and sent to Channel Islands Council, Attn: Jim Cecil, P.O. Box 873, Port Hueneme, CA 93044. Attendees' names should be included.
