Vitamin store offers ecofriendly bottles

The Vitamin Center of Camarillo, which has been in business since 1983, has introduced an earth-friendly line that offers supplements in corn-based bottles.

"We should all be concerned about the environment," said Matt Mosby, owner of the Vitamin Center. "Plastics can take more than 400 years to decompose, and Americans purchase 2.5 million plastic bottles per hour in the U.S. . . . By eliminating bottles made from plastic, I feel we are doing our part in reducing the carbon footprint on the planet."

The Vitamin Center carries the Vital Health supplement line, which uses high-quality laboratory-tested materials and has recently initiated the use of petroleum-free bottles for their products.

The bottles are made in the United States from corn dextrose, which eliminates the use of petroleum. Once the bottle is placed in the trash and arrives in an industrial landfill, where specific conditions of heat and moisture are monitored for consistency, it would take approximately 90 days to compost into carbon and water.

Vital Health also uses recycled paper labels and soy ink.
