Optimistic golfers needed

The Camarillo Noontime Optimist Club is looking for golfers for its ninth annual Youth Benefit Golf Tournament Mon., May 5 at the Las Posas Country Club.

The event will include 18 holes of golf, lunch, dinner, raffle prizes, and a putting contest. All participants will be given a fleece jacket.

Cost is $150. Funds raised from the tournament will go toward scholarships for graduating high school seniors and other local youth programs.

Mystery writers revealed at Camarillo Library

Sisters in Crime, a support group for mystery writers, will hold a panel at 2 p.m. Sun., April 20 in the community meeting room at the Camarillo Public Library, 4101 Las Posas Road.

Local authors Mari Sloan and Sheila Lowe will discuss and sign their mystery novels.

Lowe is a handwriting expert and author, and has testified in forensic cases. Her Handwriting Analyzer software is used around the world.

Admission is free. The meeting is sponsored by the Meadowlark Service League and the Friends of the Camarillo Library.

Don't be late for collector's meeting

The Ventura County and Santa Barbara County chapter of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors will meet at noon Sun., April 20 in the cafeteria in Building B at Ventura College, 4667 Telegraph Road, Ventura.

William Robinson will present "Weight Battery Impulse Clocks." Robinson has been a member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors since 1967 and is an active board member of Chapter 75 and Chapter 190. He is an accomplished restorer of antique clocks and took part in the 2007 restoration of the Santa Paula Odd Fellows Town Clock.

The meeting is open to the public. Admission is $3.

Pedeferri fundraiser a cut above

Salon Murazo will host a cuta-thon in honor of California Highway Patrol Officer Anthony Pedeferri from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sun., April 13 at the salon, 1877 E. Daily Drive, Ste. F, Camarillo.

One hundred percent of donations will go to Pedeferri and his family.

Cancer support group

The Wellness Community/ Valley Ventura hosts an ongoing support group for cancer patients and their families on Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Camarillo Health Care district, 3639 E. Las Posas Road, Ste. 117, Camarillo.

Quilt exhibit

The Camarillo Quilters Association will present "Quilting by the Sea 2008" beginning with a reception from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Fri., May 2 in San Miguel Hall at the Ventura County Fairgrounds, 10 Harbor Blvd., Ventura.

The show will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sat., May 3 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sun., May 4.

There will be 200 quilts in a gallery exhibit and additional displays of "Home of the Brave," "Pillow Talk," and charity quilts.

Admission to the Friday reception is $25. Admission to the weekend show is $7.
