Event to benefit children's charity PAUSE4kids presents the Keri Bowers movie "The Sandwich Kid: A Film About Siblings and Disabilities" Fri., April 11 at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, 2100 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd. A silent art auction and event tables will be available starting at 6 p.m., followed by the film screening and awards presentation at 8 p.m. Autism Movement Therapy will give a performance. Twentytwo educators from school districts in Ventura and Los Angeles counties will receive honors. The event also includes the release of the soundtrack from the film "Normal People Scare Me." "The Sandwich Kid" is appropriate for all ages and tells the story of 13-year-old Jace King, who shares his struggles and successes as the brother of a child with autism. The film looks at the effects on the lives of siblings of people with disabilities. The film includes appearances by artists Joey Gian, Susan Sheller, Kirsten Proffit, Ashleigh Haney and Jeff Phillips Shawn Ellis. All proceeds from the event will benefit PAUSE4kids, a local nonprofit that advocates for children with special abilities. The event is sponsored by Ventura County Special Education Local Plan Area, Conejo Valley Unified School District, Ventura County Autism Society, and the Conejo Recreation and Park District- Therapeutic Recreation Unit. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for siblings and children. A portion of the ticket price is tax-deductible.
