Horton joins dental group

Dr. Jennifer Horton has recently joined the orthodontic team lead by Drs. Shamala Pizza, Peter Galgano and Vincent Smith at the Camarillo and Simi Valley Childrens Dental Groups.

Horton, who received her dental degree at USC and her orthodontic specialty training at St. Louis University, is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. She lives in Camarillo with her husband, Ryan, and their daughter, Annika.

The Childrens Dental Group, celebrating its 30th anniversary, has specialists in orthodontics and pediatric dentistry practicing in the same facility. Orthodontic services, including Invisalign, are available for adults, children and teens.

St. John's Regional Medical Center will host an educational symposium, "Options for Care- Boomers and Beyond: Healthcare in the 21st Century," from 8 a.m. to noon Sat., April 26 at the center, 1600 N. Rose Ave., Oxnard.

The keynote speaker will be Jeffrey B. Allan, M.D., who will discuss "The Future of Geriatric Healthcare." Lori P. Michaels, NASM, CPT, will give a presentation on "Fifty Plus Fitness: Exercise for the 50 and Older Crowd."

The event will include a continental breakfast, exhibitors and prize drawings.

Admission is free, but space is limited, and reservations are required by Wed., April 23.

Safety training for kids

The American Red Cross of Ventura County will hold a Safe Kids Day event from 9 a.m. to noon Sat., April 5 at the Moorpark Community College dining room, 7075 Campus Road in Moorpark.

The event is open for children in grades three, four and five.

Safety training will be held in basic first aid; lost and found; and water, fire and transportation safety. Children will learn in interactive groups and will be taught intervention skills as well as when and how to seek adult assistance.

Training will be conducted by Red Cross Youth Services Clubs comprising high school volunteers who coordinate and lead activities that encompass the Red Cross mission.

Snacks will be provided.

What's your healthy weight?

A presentation titled "Discover How to Get to Your Healthy Weight for Good" will be given from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Thurs., April 17 at Contours Express, 1727 E. Daily Drive, Ste. C, Camarillo.

Guest speaker Cynthia Fiacco will provide practical advice on how to achieve and maintain a healthy weight. She will discuss strategies on incorporating balance and wholeness into one's life to ensure the loss of excess weight.

The presentation is free, but reservations are required to guarantee seating.

Cancer Hope Foundation, a nonprofit organization based in Camarillo with a mission to enhance the lives of people affected by cancer, is accepting applications for their Camp Keepsake weekend retreats in September and October.

Camp Keepsake offers adult cancer patients and up to five guests the opportunity to enjoy spa-type amenities in a wooded camp location in Malibu Canyon.
