Local IRS office open tomorrow

Internal Revenue Service Assistance Centers in the counties of Kern, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and Ventura will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sat., March 29 to help people file tax returns in order to receive their economic stimulus payment, commonly referred to as a rebate.

IRS personnel will answer questions and help file tax returns, which must be done in order to receive a stimulus payment.

The IRS office in Camarillo, 751 Daily Drive, is among 300 locations nationwide opening their doors for the "Super Saturday" event.In addition, during the tax filing season, more than 180 free tax assistance sites operate in the four-county area. Some serve taxpayers on a walkin basis while others require an appointment.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance sites help people who earn less than $40,000, many of whom could qualify for the economic stimulus payment and the earned income tax credit.

The AARP Tax Aide Program offers free tax help to taxpayers who are 60 and older. Seniors who normally do not file a tax return but had at least $3,000 in Social Security benefits will need to file a Form 1040A in order to receive this year's economic stimulus payment.
