Hospice training

Camarillo Hospice invites interested community members to enroll in its volunteer training and community education program scheduled to begin March 19.

The program runs for nine consecutive weeks, meeting Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Hospice office, 400 Rosewood Ave., Ste. 102, in Camarillo.

The full course is required training for Camarillo Hospice patient-care volunteers, but the class is open to everyone.

Topics include the impact of a lifethreatening illness on the patient and family, spiritual matters, medical aspects of the hospice patient, caring for the caregiver, listening skills, loss and bereavement, and the dying process.

The Camarillo Hospice is a communitybased volunteer hospice which offers practical and emotional assistance to individuals, families and caregivers dealing with a chronic or lifethreatening illness as well as bereavement support to those in grief.

Learn selfpublishing

"All About the Self-Publishing Route" will be the discussion for the next Third Thursdays seminar series for writers from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thurs., March 20 at Bank of Books, 748 E. Main St., Ventura.

The series is presented by local authors Michael Mehas and Patricia Kokinos. They will teach the "how" and "where" of the book business for self-publishing based on their personal experiences. A selfpublishing checklist and a guide of resources will be provided.

Harbor hopping for Easter

The Ventura Harbor Village will hold their Harbor is Hopping event from 1 to 3 p.m. Sun., March 23 at the Village Carousel Stage.

Mother Goose will be at the Village for story-telling and face painting and the Easter Bunny will be available for photos. The Garden Lady will help children and adults plant springtime flowers. There will also be a handson arts and crafts project table.

Other activities include pony rides, a train ride and slot car racing.

Tickets for the Village Carousel be will be half price for the event.

Parking and admission to the event are free.
