Massage technique focuses on soft tissue injuries Dr. Romeo Dimaano of the Active Chiropractic and Wellness Center in Camarillo is the only practitioner in Ventura County offering a treatment called Active Release Techniques that may be used for all types of ailments. ART is a patented, stateoftheart soft tissue system/movementbased massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Other ailments, including headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fascitis and knee problems, are just a few of the conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART. "Unlike most forms of massage therapy and chiropractic care, ART isn't designed to be an ongoing treatment or a preventive measure," said Dimaano. "It's mainly done to heal a specific injury, with the average recovery requiring six to 10 sessions. It's important to break up the scar tissue, which is often overlooked, and ART is a very effective way of doing this." ART works in this manner: Practitioners use their hands to search the muscles for "adhesions" or places where injury, repetitive motion and inflammation have left dense, tight scar tissue. Colorado chiropractor Michael Leahy patented ART in 1988. According to officials, many elite athletes rely on it to heal their soft-tissue injuries, and the NFL, NHL and Major League Baseball have contacted ART practitioners to help keep players healthy. About 3,500 certified practitioners are located worldwide. In Ventura County, Dimaano is the only ART practitioner. He also holds a doctorate degree in chiropractic as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in community health education. Before joining Active Chiropractic and Wellness Center, Dimaano practiced at Janzen and Janzen Chiropractic in Campbell, Calif., and Palmer College of Chiropractic West in San Jose. Dimaano has had a 7590 percent success rate with injuries, depending on the severity of the case. Most common injuries involve rotator cuff/shoulder pain, tennis elbow/elbow pain, plantar fascitis/ foot pain, low back pain, and upper back/shoulder tightness and pain. In addition, Dimanno has helped many people avoid surgeries for ailments including impingement syndrome, carpal tunnel syndrome, plantar fascitis and low back pain. The average recovery period is four to six weeks, depending on the severity of the case. To learn more, call Active Chiropractic and Wellness Center, 2440 Las Posas Road, at (805) 384-0101. |
