Vance honored for volleyball prowess

California State University Northridge junior Eric Vance, a Camarillo resident, has been named Sports Imports/AVCA as well as MPSF Player of the Week for his performance in the fourth-ranked Matadors' wins over No. 7 UC Irvine and No. 6 UCLA last week.

The 6-foot-4 outside hitter averaged 5.86 kills, 1.71 digs and 6.36 points per game to propel the Matadors to their fifth and sixth consecutive wins.

In Northridge's three-game sweep over the defending NCAA men's national champion Anteaters, Vance put away 23 kills, three digs, one ace and one block. In his next match against the Bruins, Vance logged 18 kills while adding nine digs, one ace and two blocks.
