Art exhibit quite a ride

Steve Cook's "Riding The Planet: Painterly Realism of Nature and Humanity" will be at the Harbor Village Gallery through March 30.

An artist reception will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight, Fri., March 7 at the gallery, 1591 Spinnaker Drive, Ste. 117C in Ventura.

The exhibit features recent paintings of California landscape, ocean life and culture.

Cook is an alumnus of San Diego State College who has spent time working for the Peace Corp. in Jamaica. He is an avid surfer and full-time artist, and has had a number of solo exhibits.

The gallery is open from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Monday.

Encounter 'Encounters'

The Ventura College Community Orchestra will perform at 8 p.m. Fri., March 14.

The concert titled "Encounters" will include music from Wagner's "Parsifal" and "Quest for the Grail" by Michael Mogensen.

The soloist is Louise Lofquist, a professor at Pepperdine University and an established concert artist. She will perform "Piano Concerto in A Minor" by Robert Schumann.

Ventura College student Max Gualtieri will make his conducting debut with the Welsh hymn "Rhosymedre."

'CineMagic' tix on sale

Tickets for the "Out of This World" show of CineMagic, the performing arts program of the Pleasant Valley Education Foundation, will be on sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sat., March 8 at Valle Lindo School, 1777 Aileen St. in Camarillo.

Other ticket sales will be from 9 a.m. to noon Sat., March 15, March 29 and April 5.

Performances will be 7 p.m. Thurs. and Fri., April 17 and 18, as well as an 11 a.m. matinee Sat., April 19.

Ticket prices range from $5 to $25.

Peanuts musical at community theater

The Camarillo Community Theatre's production of "You're A Good Man Charlie Brown" continues through Sun., March 16 at the theater inside the airport, 330 Skyway Drive, Camarillo.

The show, directed by David Newcomer, is a musical featuring Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy, Sally, Schroeder and Snoopy.

Performances are at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays.

Tickets are $17 for adults, $13 for students, seniors and military, and $8 for children ages 12 and younger.
