Oxnard teen arrested in Camarillo shooting
Police say crime was gang related

A 17-year-old Oxnard teen was arrested Fri., Feb. 22 at a home in the 500 block of N. Bonita Avenue in Oxnard in connection with the shooting of a Camarillo man on Jan. 5, police said.

Police said they believe the shooting was gang related and arrested the teen on attempted murder charges. The teen was also charged with a criminal street gang enhancement. If he is sentenced, the enhancement charge would result in additional jail time.

Detectives with the Ventura County Sheriff's Department and the Oxnard Police Department S.W.A.T. team served a search warrant at the Oxnard home and arrested the suspected shooter in the early morning hours last Friday, according to a Sheriff's Department press release.

Rafael Leon, 23, was at a family party with a reported 100 people in attendance at a home in the 200 block of N. Glenn Drive in Camarillo when he was shot multiple times in the upper body at about 8:15 p.m. Jan. 5.

Leon was taken to St. John's Medical Center in Oxnard, where he was listed in critical condition. Leon has since been released from the Oxnard hospital.
