Bennett to run for superior court judge

Jeff Bennett, Ventura County's Chief Deputy District Attorney for the past 13 years, became the first person to announce his candidacy for the open seat on the Ventura County Superior Court. Incumbent judge Bruce Clarke is not seeking reelection.

Bennett announced his candidacy at a midmorning press conference on the Government Center quad Feb. 8.

Among those present to support Bennett were Ventura District Attorney Greg Totten, former district attorney Mark Bradbury, U.S. Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-Thousand Oaks) and other Ventura County law enforcement and political leaders, mayors, council members and public servants.

Citing his 29 years in law enforcement, including working as a deputy sheriff in Sacramento County, Bennett said "I seek this office so that I may continue a lifetime of service to the people of Ventura County, especially those of our residents who have been the victims of violent crime."

Bennett is 51 years old, married and the father of two daughters. He is a Ventura County native.
