Massage Envy offers a 'tiny vacation'
By Andrea L. Minium Special to the Acorn

Husband and wife Kirk Peacock and Pam Tanase make it their business to know how to relax, rejuvenate and relieve stress through the healing powers of therapeutic massage.

Peacock and Tanase became regional developers in fall 2004 for Massage Envy, a nationwide franchised massage therapy chain, after hearing about the company through mutual friends. Since becoming owners of the Camarillo Massage Envy in 2005, the couple has made it a point to spread the word about the healing powers of massage.

"I want to help people learn about the benefits of massage therapy," Tanase said.

Not only does massage therapy help to relax and relieve stress, massages have been found to also be medically beneficial.

Recent studies found that massage therapy helps with arthritis, circulatory problems, allergies, anxiety and depression, carpal tunnel syndrome and has also proven to reduce recovery time for many medical conditions.

Health benefits to receiving a massage on a regular basis can also help to lower blood pressure, relieve tension-related headaches, strengthen the immune system, improve rehabilitation after surgery or an injury, and improve posture, flexibility and range of motion.

Whether someone suffering from chronic pain or simply looking for a little relaxation and stress relief, Tanase said Massage Envy tailors their massages to meet their clients' needs.

"Massage Envy customizes every massage to each individual's needs." Tanase said.

The hands-on massages offered at Massage Envy include Swedish, deep tissue, reflexology, triggerpoint therapy, as well as prenatal massage.

"The effects of a massage last for days. Expect the massage to alleviate pain, making the body feel better and more relaxed. It is like a tiny vacation," Tanase said.

Before a massage, the masseuse will talk with their client to find out whether they are feeling pain or need special attention given to a particular part of their body. By talking to their client, a masseuse can determine the pressure and type of massage to give.

According to Massage Envy, more people than every before are turning to therapeutic massage treatment to provide relaxation, relieve tension associated with the daily stresses of a busy life, or simply to help maintain good health and achieve a balanced lifestyle.
