CAPE to hold enrollment lottery

Families who want their children to attend the Camarillo Academy of Progressive Education for the 200809 school year must register for the school lottery by Thurs., March 13.

Families that are selected in the lottery will be notified on Mon., March 17. New student registration will be from March 31 to April 3.

Tours are available for families interested in seeing the school and meeting the educational leaders.

CAPE is an independent public school that serves more than 350 kindergarten through eighth-grade students with the "open" philosophy used for 30 years at Bedford Open and Los Senderos Open schools in Camarillo.

Although CAPE is not regulated by many state and local rules, it is still held accountable for improving student achievement.

CAPE does not charge tuition and may not discriminate.

First availability for classroom space will go to current CAPE students and their siblings, with remaining spaces filled by the lottery. There are waiting lists for most grade levels.
