Speaker offers insight on book

The Camarillo Newcomers Club will meet at 11 a.m. Thurs., Feb 21 at the Sportsman Restaurant, 4426 Central Ave.

Pattie-Kong Slater will talk about the novel "Tian Ming: Destiny," which was written by her husband, Thomas Quin Kong. The book was inspired by diaries written by the author's grandfather and encompasses family stories from four generations of Chinese-Americans.

The lunch costs $17 for members and $19 for guests. Reservations must be made by Sat., Feb. 16. To RSVP, call (805) 389-4097.

Girl Scouts put out welcome mat

The Girl Scouts will host two registration and activity days during February.

Girls ages 5 to 17 are invited to celebrate Friendship Month with pizza and craft-making from 4 to 6 p.m. Sat., Feb. 9 at Roundtable Pizza, 880 Arneill Road in Camarillo,

To celebrate World Thinking Day girls will decorate a tote bag and learn about many world cultures from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sat., Feb. 23 at Tierra Linda School, 1201 Woodcreek Road in Camarillo.

Land, seascape exhibit

"Here and There," an exhibit of land and seascapes by Virginia Beale, will be shown at the Buenaventura Gallery from Feb. 5 through March 1, with a reception for the artist from 4 to 7 p.m. Sat., Feb. 9.

The Buenaventura Gallery, 700 E. Santa Clara St. in downtown Ventura, is open noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
