Seven Camarillo homes burglarized in two weeks
By Daniel Wolowicz camarillo@theacorn.com

A rash of Camarillo home burglaries has police once again asking residents to keep doors and windows locked and to be aware of unusual activity in their neighborhoods.

Between Jan. 14 and 28, seven homes were burglarized, police reported earlier this week.

Although most of the breakins occurred during the daytime- between 7 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.- burglars struck a home in the 2100 block of Gorman Street on Sun., Jan. 27 while the residents were sleeping. No one was injured in the late-night burglary. A wallet and car keys were stolen, according to police.

"Whenever we have a crime that happens when someone is home, it potentially raises the level of harm to the people who are living there as opposed to just property loss," said Senior Dep. Bob Maclean with the Camarillo Police Department.

In addition to the Gorman address, burglars have hit homes in the 500 block of Bandera Drive, the 400 block of Viejo Drive, the 300 block of Lido Court, the 1000 block of Mobil Avenue, the 1300 block of Saturn Avenue and the 200 block of Briarfield Street.

The burglars targeted jewelry, cash and home electronics.

Of the seven burglarized homes, four were unlocked. At the home in the 1000 block of Mobile Avenue, police reports show nearly $19,000 in jewelry, cash and personal property was stolen from the unlocked home.

Late last year, police arrested six Oxnard residents in connection with a string of 11 daytime burglaries in less than a month.

Maclean said, however, police have few leads on potential suspects and are asking for residents' help in reporting suspicious activity.

"At this point, we don't even have any suspect information, which is why we are asking for help," Maclean said.

To report a possible home burglary in progress, Maclean said to call 911 immediately.

Police advise residents to never enter their home if they suspect a burglar is inside.

"Don't enter if you believe they're in there," Maclean said. "Call the police immediately, either from a cellphone or a neighbor's house. You never know if a burglar is armed."

Anyone with any information regarding the home burglaries are asked to call detectives at (805) 388-5100 or (805) 388-5131.

Ventura County Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 reward for information which leads to an arrest. Call Crime Stoppers at 987-8255 (TALK). The caller may remain anonymous, and the call is not recorded.
