CSUCI halts freshmen admission early California State University Channel Islands announced that it will stop accepting applications for first-time freshman candidates Fri., Feb. 1 and will not admit lower division transfer students, upper division transfer students who are not fully eligible and students seeking a second baccalaureate degree for the fall 2008 semester. CSUCI will continue to accept applications from transfer students who meet the minimum admission requirements of an upper division applicant. "The university has already received thousands of applications from first-time freshman candidates who applied to CSUCI during the priority application period of Oct. 1 to Nov. 30," said Jane Sweetland, dean of enrollment services. "This proposed budget cut would mean that we would not be able to grow our anticipated enrollment by approximately 500 students. Instead, CSUCI would stop growth and maintain its current enrollment numbers for the 2008-09 academic year." CSUCI had 3,600 students enrolled in the fall 2007 semester. Freshman candidates who applied during the priority application period are being evaluated for admission and will receive an admission decision before the end of March. The decision to close the freshman application period on Feb. 1 was made by California State University Chancellor Charles B. Reed and the university presidents of the 23-campus system.
